Michael Thompson is the founder of Thompson Family Law. Michael gained his LLB and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Strathclyde. Michael also holds an honours degree in Pharmacology and Immunology and worked in the Semi- Conductor Industry for ten years prior to entering the legal profession.
Whilst attaining the LLB and Diploma, Michael was employed as a consultant by an internationally renowned Semi-Conductor Manufacturer reporting directly to the European Director of the company; and spending two days per week in Amsterdam. Michael founded Thompson and Brown Solicitors in 2011 with Graeme Brown and the firm changed its name to Thompson Family Law following upon the separation of the criminal business and the civil business. As the partner, Michael operates a varied and wide ranging civil practice. In family actions, Michael has conducted in excess of 100 Civil Proofs concerning Children’s Referral matters, Divorce and Family actions (Contact, Residence, Child Relocation matters, Acquisition and Deprivation of Parental Rights and Responsibilities, Declarator of Parentage and non parentage, and name changes) Professional Negligence cases involving Medical Negligence, Architectural Negligence, Solicitor Negligence and general civil litigation (including Interdict, Power of Arrest, Contempt of Court, Breach of Contract and Personal Injury cases).
Michael has also conducted numerous high profile Fatal Accident Inquiries including for the families of James Bell, Christian Macintosh, Jacqueline Hughes and Paul Rainey. Michael has also acted in complex Executry disputes including Elizabeth Dobbie, Executrix v Michael Patton and has been instructed to act on behalf of Solicitors.
When not working, Michael enjoys being a Dad, football and food.
