We are still open throughout the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. 

Family law is still a vital aspect of many of our lives, and the courts will still handle urgent business. The Courts have stated that that urgent business includes: 

  • New applications for child protection orders
  • Interim interdicts
  • child referral appeals
  • urgent adoptions
  • urgent interim residence or contact applications 
  • and urgent applications in relation to Adults with Incapacity.

This means many cases can still proceed through court including urgent disputes regarding the living arrangements of children, social work cases and more. 

Many cases can be progressed as normal outside of court.  In particular, separation and divorce matters can often be finalised without any court intervention whatsoever.

Since our founding we have operated a paperless way of working.  We are able to progress the cases of new and existing clients remotely during these unprecedented times.  We can receive documents via email, WhatsApp and more.  We can offer appointments by telephone, FaceTime, Skype, WhatsApp or Zoom.

Children's Legal Advice and Assistance & Children's Legal Aid

Thompson Family Law are registered with the Scottish Legal Aid Board to provide Children’s Legal Advice and Assistance and Children's Legal Aid. Children’s Legal Advice and Assistance is how the Scottish Legal Aid Board maybe able to assist in funding one of our solicitors to assist you as an adult or a child who requires to attend a Children’s Panel Hearing.

Children’s Legal Advice and Assistance also cover’s certain court hearings that are related to Children’s Panel Hearings. This form of assistance is available to the child involved in the hearing, the parents of the child and some other adults involved in the upbringing of the child. We will carry out a free assessment to ascertain whether you qualify for any form of Legal Aid.

There are certain circumstances where Children’s Legal Aid is required as opposed to Children’s Legal Advice and Assistance.

Our solicitors are experienced in obtaining the appropriate type of Legal Aid for you. Children’s Legal Aid is generally used where there are Grounds for Referral to be heard in the Sheriff Court.
