The government announced that thousands more families with adopted children are set to benefit from additional support after a special fund, named the Adoption Support Fund, received a boost of £12 million last month – bringing the total investment into the fund to £149 million since its introduction in 2015.
The Adoption Support Fund has already benefited more than 35,000 families, providing them with services such as cognitive therapy, play and music therapy, and family support sessions. With three quarters of adopted children having suffered from abuse and neglect from their birth parents, this extra financial support is thought to make a substantial difference.
Sue Armstrong-Brown, Chief Executive of Adoption UK, stated:
“This is fantastic news for adoptive parents across England. This support makes all the difference to families parenting some of the country’s most vulnerable children – in many cases it has been the one thing that held the family together and prevented the child returning to care.
